Rest in peace, Carlos Marín

Spanish baritone Carlos Marín has passed away. He will be remembered for his incredible operatic voice and as one of the founding members in Simon Cowell’s group “Il Divo.”

On December 19th news was released that beloved Spanish baritone Carlos Marín had passed away.

Carlos Marin born 1968 released his first album at only eight-years-old entitled The Little Caruso. He continued to appear onstage in musical productions such as Beauty and the Beast and Les Misérables. He was also a featured voice performer in the Nightmare Before Christmas.

His musical studies continued and he trained with many top coaches including the famed soprano Montserrat Caballé. Carlos had a successful career in operas with roles in La Traviata, Lucia Di Lammermoor, and Madame Butterfly among others.

In 2003 he joined the newly formed musical quartet Il Divo. Each member had been personally chosen by music mogul Simon Cowell. The group quickly became one of the most successful acts in classical crossover eventually selling over 28 million albums.

Carlos was on tour when he fell ill. On December 19th he passed away and the news was shared by his band mates:

“It is with heavy hearts that we are letting you know that our friend and partner, Carlos Marin, has passed away. He will be missed by his friends, family and fans. There wiIl never be another voice or spirit like Carlos.

For 17 years the four of us have been on this incredible journey of Il Divo together, and we will miss our dear friend. We hope and pray that his beautiful soul will rest in peace. With Love — David, Sebastien and Urs”

At age 18, Natasha made her opera debut playing the part of the mother in Menotti’s ‘Amahl and the Night Visitors’ with the Eastern Festival Opera. Natasha is the creator and editor of ‘Classical Crossover Magazine’ a venture that has allowed her to interview many of the top stars in the genre including Sarah Brightman, Celtic Woman, Mirusia, Paul Potts, and more. During the covid-19 pandemic, she created an online concert series for the magazine that has seen her perform in the same line-up as Alex Sharpe, Lucy Kay, Barbara Padilla, Classical Reflection, and more on the virtual stage. In 2022, Natasha was included on the charity album “Stars of Classical Crossover: Christmas” in benefit of the Wallace & Gromit Children’s Charity.
