Kuruvinda is the new album from Grammy-nominated American composer and harpist Kirsten Agresta Copely. From the first track, Shadow Light, where Kirsten’s deft fingers pluck out arpeggios like golden rays of light, the listener is taken on a journey of reflection to embrace flaws and shine like the ‘imperfect gems’ they are.
Prepare to be lulled by the aching beauty and moody contemplation. Kirsten’s melodies bring with them an overall peace that is much needed. Her collaboration with clarinetist Ismail Lumanovski on Ratnaraja is especially moving, as it effectively captures mourning and adds new weight to the strings. The conflict between pain and acceptance is captured in the title track, Kuruvinda. Likewise, the two tracks featuring Dave Eggar and Jessica Meyer enhance the theme by adding more colors, while Saṃtoṣa is a sweet resolution.
Kuruvinda will touch listeners with its tension between despondency and brilliance—a meditative and enriching experience.
