Jay Dref releases new single “Until the World Stops Turning”

Jay Dref releases first collaboration with songwriting team of Dave, Dave Junior and Tania McGerty,

Buffalo native and Juilliard alumni, Jay Dref has been steadily building his career as a classical crossover tenor. With one EP and numerous singles under his belt, including the acclaimed “Taxi in the Rain,” Jay averages 5k+ listeners on Spotify. It was through one of those singles that composer Dave McGerty discovered his music.

“I first heard the amazing Jay Dref when I came across his incredible recording of Caruso a couple of years ago. I was so moved by his beautiful voice, and the emotion he displayed in the song,” Dave shared with us. “I felt that our songwriting team, consisting of myself, my son Dave Jnr, and daughter Tania, just had to write him some songs. We had recently written and released a very successful album of our contemporary classical crossover music by Greek String Quartet ‘Fortissimo’, and we felt sure we could write some contemporary classical crossover songs for Jay. We wrote ‘Until the World Stops Turning’ and sent it to Jay in the hope that it would appeal to him. We wanted to write a dramatic powerful song in which Jay could showcase his lovely emotional voice, and one that built up to a “big” ending.”

The song resonated with Jay who recorded his part locally and sent it back to the McGerty team for mixing and mastering. “I very much enjoyed the process of recording ‘Until the World Stops Turning’ written by the wonderful McGerty songwriting team. It’s an incredible song that could absolutely be the theme for an upcoming James Bond film. I want to thank the McGerty’s for writing such a beautiful piece and allowing me the opportunity to record and release it for the world to hear.”

“Until the World Stops Turning” builds with true cinematic appeal, showing off Jay’s lush tone and dynamic range. The songwriters have created a worthy vehicle for crossover artists and I hope to hear more collaborations in the future.

“This has been a real labor of love for us, and we are very proud to be associated with an artist of the standing of the wonderful Jay Dref.” – Dave McGerty
