Mezzo-Soprano Sophie Clarke set to release ‘Then Sings My Soul’ March, 24th

On 24th March 2023 Liverpool Mezzo-Soprano Sophie Clarke will release her highly anticipated new album ‘Then Sings My Soul.’ This is a collection of the young singer’s favourite hymns and religious songs including Amazing Grace, Abide With Me and A Clare Benediction by John Rutter.

However before the full release, Sophie would like to share two singles from the album with you all. The first on 3rd February is a vocal and orchestral arrangement of ‘Morning Has Broken.’ This version of the classic hymn, originally made famous by Cat Stevens in the 1970s, features orchestrations by Matteo Ressa and production by Henry Broadhead.

The second single to be released on 3rd March is a classical crossover version of ‘I Watch The Sunrise’, a beautiful hymn about God’s presence throughout life’s seasons. This track was also orchestrated by Matteo Ressa, a talented UK based Orchestrator, Conductor and Musician.

This new album follows a long line of successful music releases by the young classical singer including Sophie’s original song ‘A Song For Us’ in aid of Liverpool Heartbeat Charity which has been played worldwide from Finland to South Korea to the USA. This song, which she composed alongside orchestrator and composer Hannah Keeley, is about the writing pair’s home city and has been performed at various venues including the Liverpool Epstein Theatre for Ricky Tomlinson.

The Liverpool born Mezzo-Soprano, Actor and Dancer has been awarded the Hargreaves and Ball Scholarship to study for a Masters of Music at the Royal Northern College of Music. This year, Sophie will perform as the Mezzo-Soprano Soloist in the Manchester Premiere of Bernstein’s ‘Mass’ at the Bridgewater Hall; a role she has performed before at the Royal Festival Hall in London. She will also be the Mezzo-Soprano Soloist in a West End Musicals UK Tour with London Concertante Orchestra. Sophie won the Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition in 2022 after competing against singers from all over the UK and was subsequently invited to perform as part of the London Song Festival. Other performance highlights in recent years include the Alto Soloist in Handel’s ‘Messiah’ at Nottingham’s Albert Hall and filming her solo performance for BBC One’s television series ‘All Together Now!’ in which she shared classical singing with a
wider audience.
