Natasha Barbieri: What are you feeling right now?

Nadia Eide: Wow, just blown away by the support and reaction from my audition. It’s been a few years since a classical singer has broken through on The Voice, so I’m soaking up every second.

Natasha Barbieri: When lockdown began, you put together some of the most successful online concerts. What was it like to finally be back on the stage and for such prestigious judges?

Nadia Eide: I was unbelievably nervous! I had lost a whole year of concert bookings through 2020. I did my best to keep music alive during the lockdowns but nothing compares to singing live on stage. In many ways, this was the reason I decided to try for The Voice because I just really had to keep singing.

Natasha Barbieri: What made you decide to join team Will?

Nadia Eide: Honestly, I auditioned for The Voice just to work with Will. I have been a huge fan of him for years. I believe his creativity, showmanship, and personality work so well with me. I just had a good feeling about him – and it turns out he really wanted to have me too!

Natasha Barbieri: Tell us about your audition piece Now We Are Free. What do you love about this particular song and are there any others you’d like to perform on the show?

Nadia Eide: I am a huge fan of film music, naturally. But I love reinventing songs and making the classical crossover genre a bit more commercial and ‘exciting’. I’m just so thrilled to be working with a world-class music team now who work so hard on making my music dreams a reality.

Natasha Barbieri: For those who will be new fans, how did your musical journey begin?

Nadia Eide: My background is in opera and a few classical musicals. But music took over my life quite quickly as I love creating new arrangements and pushing myself musically. I’ve been singing since I was a shy twelve-year-old.

Natasha Barbieri: You have sung on stage in opera, classical oratorio, and operettas and have sung repertoire across all genres. A true crossover artist. What would you like the audience to know about this genre?

Nadia Eide: This genre is so exciting and can be so powerful given the right packaging. The classical repertoire truly is the best base technique for any vocalist. It’s such a diverse genre with so much scope for reinvention. I would love to convert those people who aren’t classic music fans yet!

Natasha Barbieri: You’ve already released a No.1 classical single and performed around the world but the level of exposure from The Voice is incredible. What are some of your goals going into this?

Nadia Eide: It’s a very different thing pushing and pushing for years off your own back. I’ve been so lucky but I want people to know it has also taken me many years to get to this point. Nothing in the music industry comes easy and there is an enormous amount of preparation that goes on behind the scenes. I hope to be able to finally be able to break through, make some waves with my style, and most importantly put the classical crossover genre back on the map!

Natasha Barbieri: You’ve previously appeared on BBC’s “Pitch Battle” with the West End Tenors. What’s it like starting this experience as a solo artist this time around?

Nadia Eide: That was very good practice for this experience. All the interviews, rehearsals, and getting used to singing on TV is a very different experience to doing live concerts. I was lucky to have done a solo on Pitch Battle which prepared me all the more. But standing on stage on my own now is just as fun as singing with Voxx.

Natasha Barbieri: Has your little boy seen you on TV if so what was his reaction? I’m sure your husband must be so proud!

Nadia Eide: Yes! My little boy has started singing along when I do my practice. And when he watched the episode of The Voice he gave me a huge round of applause. He is just adorable and it makes me so teary to know he loves seeing his mum on stage. My husband Michael is an excellent singer himself and just the most incredible support. He has been amazing through all this. And his reaction for my Blind Audition was just priceless!

Natasha Barbieri: You have previously released music in aid of Lupus charities. Can you tell us why this cause is so important to you?

Nadia Eide: I set up the Project Rainbow charity to raise funds for Lupus Charities but most importantly for my twin brother who has a severe form of Lupus and is still very ill. The cost of treatment and medication is immense and I just wanted to do my part to help.

Natasha Barbieri: How can your fans support you during this time?

Nadia Eide: By spreading the word about The Voice and what I want to achieve. Watch and share my videos. I need all the help I can get from the classical crossover community to make a difference!
