Remembering Hollywood Golden Age Soprano Jane Powell

Rest in Peace, Jane Powell April 1, 1929 – September 16, 2021.

Jane was one of the Hollywood sopranos who lit up the screen during the Golden Age. She started as a teen star singing light classical repertoire and contemporary favorites, starring alongside Elizabeth Taylor in ‘A Date with Judy,’ dancing up a storm with Fred Astaire in ‘Royal Wedding’ and singing with Howard Keel in ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.’

Jane continued to sing on the stage in roles such as ‘My Fair Lady’ ‘Brigadoon,’ and ‘The Sound of Music.’ She also recorded popular tunes and Broadway favorites. You can stream her albums “Can’t we be friends?” and “Love to you and Broadway” which was released in 1975.

Learn more about Jane’s extraordinary life in an article by our contributor Jennie Johanson, The Soprano Next Door.

We remember Jane as not only a wonderful singer, actress, and dancer but one of the early influences for classical crossover. May she rest in peace.
