Russell Watson and Nancy May at the Winchester Cathedral

Review and pictures thanks to Kevin Adams

Russell Watson took to the stage at Winchester Cathedral on 31st March 2023 on the opening night of his magnificent buildings tour.

The Godfather of classical crossover delivered two sets from his repertoire of favorite songs. He was accompanied by world famous pianist Mike Moran.

Set list included O Sole Mio, followed by a rendition of Just One Cornetto, Panis Angelicus, Ave Maria, How Great Thou Art, Volare, which had the audience singing along, Parla Piu Piano, Empty Chairs At Empty Tables, an emotional Someone to Remember Me and a powerful version of everyone’s favorite Nessun Dorma. No wonder he is called The Voice.

Also appearing as special guest was the lovely Nancy May. A classical crossover soprano from Essex. She had two sets of two songs. Somewhere Over the Rainbow, O Mio Babbino Caro, I Dreamed A Dream and Cinema Paradiso a beautiful version of an Ennio Morricone song that was well received by the audience. Nancy also sang a lovely duet with Russell, The Prayer. The look on Russell’s face was a joy to see, especially when she hit the high notes at the end of the song.

It was a beautiful concert in a lovely location in the heart of Hampshire. Lots more dates have been added with more to follow throughout 2023. Not to be missed.
